Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.

Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since March of 2023.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
